Email Sequencer

Learn how ops teams use the Clay Sequencer to run cold outbound email end to end, from buying and warming the inboxes you send from to writing, sending, and reading the results. You'll set up sending infrastructure, enroll a Clay audience that updates itself right up to the moment of the send, write with variables and AI snippets, and use the deliverability numbers to keep your domains healthy.

Global Inbox

Last lesson put every campaign's numbers in one place. This one puts every campaign's replies in one place. By the end you'll be able to triage across your whole workspace by intent, blocklist correctly, and know exactly what a rep sees when they sign in on their side.

🗂️ The Three-Pane Layout

Click Inbox to open it. If you've used a mail client, this will look familiar immediately, because it works the same way:

  • Campaigns on the left
  • Replies in the middle
  • The conversation on the right

You can filter by the users in your workspace, and inside the replies pane you can filter by how the lead was categorized, using the same categories from the campaign analytics lesson.

🎯 Sort by Intent, Not by Arrival

Filtering by category is where those tags stop being a statistic and start being a queue. Filter to interested and meeting request, work those first, and come back for the rest later.

Sort by intent, not by when the email landed. A meeting request that came in yesterday matters more than an out of office from an hour ago, and an inbox sorted by arrival time buries the first under the second.

✉️ Working a Reply

Open a thread and you can:

  • Reply
  • Forward
  • Mark it read or unread
  • Change the lead's category
  • Add the lead to a blocklist, or add the whole domain to a blocklist

When you hit reply, that reply goes out from the account that sent the original email. So the thread holds together on the prospect's side. They see one conversation with one person, which is what you want, because that's what they think is happening.

🚫 Blocklisting

When you blocklist an address or a domain, that address is done receiving mail from this workspace, from any campaign, permanently, unless somebody deliberately takes them off the list.

When someone tells you they're done receiving email from you, it is your responsibility to blocklist them immediately. Same day. There's no version of this where waiting helps you. If they say don't reach out, don't reach out again.

👤 The Rep View

There's a second surface at app.clay.com/rep for the people on your team who don't work in Clay.

It's a stripped-down version. A rep signing in there sees:

  • The accounts assigned to them
  • The replies that came in on those accounts
  • Nothing else in your workspace. No tables, no segments, no other reps' conversations

They can also connect their own email account there if they'd rather work out of it.

This is the answer when your security team asks about giving reps access to Clay. They aren't getting access to Clay. They're getting a scoped view of their own mail.

Note: most reps will end up answering from the inbox they already live in, and that's fine. This exists for the teams where it isn't.

🚀 What's Next

You can now triage every reply across every campaign from one place, work your queue by intent instead of by arrival time, blocklist an unsubscribe the moment it comes in, and explain to a security reviewer exactly what a rep can and can't see.

Next, we'll see how everything that happens inside a campaign also lands in an ordinary Clay table, which means you can build on top of it.
