Introducing Clay MCP for Reps
Clay now works inside the AI chat tools you already use every day, like ChatGPT, Claude, and Microsoft Copilot. This lesson is a quick tour of what that unlocks: research a target account, build a list from scratch, find and enrich the right people, and draft personalized outreach, all in a single conversation, without ever opening a spreadsheet or logging into Clay.
🎯 Who This Course Is For
This is the Reps course. If you're an SDR, an AE, or anyone doing prospecting and research, you're in the right place.
If you're in RevOps, or you're the admin setting up the infrastructure behind all of this, there's a separate Operators course built just for you. Get your reps running there, then meet them us back here.
🔍 Research an Account
Real prospecting starts with the account, so that's where the tour starts. In a Clay-connected chat, ask:
"Research Stripe's recent product launches, hiring trends, and expansion signals. What are their top priorities this year?"
Clay opens a research widget and compiles a full company overview: recent product launches, hiring trends broken down by function, expansion signals, and a clean table of top priorities for the year, all with its sources cited.
A single prompt returns a treasure trove of account research, grounded in real data and ready to act on.
🏢 Build a Target List from Scratch
Don't have your accounts picked yet? Build the list in the same chat.
"Find tech companies in New York with 200 to 500 employees."
Clay's connected company search returns 20 companies that match, in a widget you can open right inside Claude, with the basics already pulled in and a second page ready to load. From there you can layer on enrichments like headcount growth, recent news, or investors. Those spend credits, so you run them only when you want them.
👥 Find and Enrich the Right People
Once you know the account, find the people inside it, and you can search more than one company at once:
"Find sales leaders at Clay, Ramp, and Figma."
Clay returns the leaders across all three in one list, with job titles, location, and LinkedIn URLs. Then you enrich only the ones you want with verified email, work history, recent thought leadership, even signals like Instagram post frequency.
No spreadsheet, no LinkedIn tab. Because it's all one conversation, the tool can also flag when seniority across the results is mixed and rate its own confidence in what it found.
✍️ Draft Personalized Outreach
Pick a leader and draft straight from the research already in the chat:
"Draft a personalized email to the sales directory referencing their background and recent company initiatives to sell them on Clay."
Clay enriches that one contact (to save credits) and pulls the company's recent initiatives from its newsfeed and a quick web search. Then it drafts not one but two emails: an origin-story angle and an AI-native angle. It even shows its reasoning: it avoided over-claiming, landed on a 20-minute ask as the call to action, and kept the signature simple.
You can copy either version, merge the strongest parts of both into one, push it to your sequencer, or send it straight from Gmail.
🔄 It All Happens in One Conversation
Every one of those prompts ran in the same chat, so each step builds on the last. You search, you research the account, and then you draft your outreach, without ever leaving the conversation.
🚀 What's Next
You've now seen the full prospecting motion, account research, list-building, people enrichment, and personalized outreach, run entirely inside your AI chat tool of choice.
Next, we slow it down and get hands-on. In the following lesson, you'll connect Clay to your tool in about thirty seconds and research an account using both live market data and your own company's context.
